Geoff spent the early part of his career working for litigation firms in Minnesota and for the Consumer Fraud & Crimes Division of the Ohio State Government. In 1980, Geoff founded Personal Injury Attorneys. At that time, most law firms handled many different types of cases. Personal Injury Attorneys began the same way, practicing commercial litigation, construction litigation, personal injury and family law in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Geoff soon saw that he could achieve greater good by focusing his attention solely on injured victims. In the late 80s, the firm became one of the first in Minnesota to concentrate exclusively on personal injury law. The firm built its reputation by taking on challenging cases and prevailing, winning extraordinary verdicts from juries and settlements from insurance companies.
The firm’s clientele grew, as did its reputation for having a winning Minnesota injury lawyer in almost every personal injury practice area. Geoff saw the need to branch out in the Minneapolis market, but knew that it would be a challenge; he was facing large, impersonal firms with a history of aggressive advertising. Geoff, however, proceeded with confidence and began to market his firm’s services on TV and in other media throughout Minnesota. The firm acquired more office space in downtown Minneapolis, where Geoff decided to use cutting-edge technology to organize the firm’s infrastructure. He connected his Minneapolis and St. Cloud offices through a special online networking system known as the Chesapeake Interlink Personal Injury Negligence System (now known as Needles). Butwinick & Donaldson was the first law firm in the State of Minnesota to purchase and implement this system for monitoring personal injury cases. The law firm became a streamlined machine, battling insurance companies and helping Minnesota personal injury victims across the entire state.
Now, Butwinick & Donaldson is a regional law firm of veteran Minnesota injury lawyers who handle automobile and product liability cases in addition to many types of personal injury lawsuits. The attorneys willingly share their legal skills and know-how with others who are still learning. Geoff and the office administrator have worked on the advisory board for software design of Chesapeake Interlink. The firm has also participated in semi-annual meetings with personal injury law firms from around the country for the development of better systems, client service and business progress. Whenever possible, Geoff lectures on trial strategy and how to obtain favorable, large verdicts.
